Whats In It For Me?

Hello, friends welcome to yet another blog of mine.

Today I wanted to share my experience about how I started learning new things.

As you all know that I shifted my quadrant from employee to entrepreneur a few years back.

But before that, I was a corporate self-proclaimed genius. As in I thought since I was working in an MNC I knew everything about everything.

But in a real sense I barely had any knowledge about different quadrants; the business quadrant.

When I got into it I had a reality check that I am a nobody and there is yet a lot that I need to learn.

That was my paradigm shift.

I went to my mentor and humbly said “I will follow as you say I want to learn everything about the business world”.

Mentor:  “I would be happy to teach you but before learning there is one important step that you need to take and without which you will not be able to learn anything”.

 I was quite confused. I wondered what is it that needs to be done. Just a decision is enough

But my mentor said, “ I want you to unlearn what you know and what you think you know”.

Before learning Unlearning is important.

"The slate has to be clean so I can write something on it”.

I realized it and then kept all my corporate knowledge aside and started to learn fresh.

My mentor started teaching me about business in the practical world.

I too was enjoying learning from his experience, his work, his thoughts, his decisions etc.

Later he recommended me some business books.

But with those books, he also gave me very important learning which I want to share with you.

*      WIIFM:

What’s In It For Me?

Before starting to read any book I should always check What’s In It For Me. As in what will I learn from it.

Whenever I get a chance to learn anything from a book or any seminar, first I should check WIIFM.

Later my mentor also asked me to remember these lines:

What I hear, I forget

What I See or Read I remember

What I Do I Understand

Whatever  knowledge that I seek theoretically, there are high chances that I will forget

The knowledge that I get through seeing and reading is what I will remember.

All the knowledge that I take, I need to implement it to understand how it works.

And once I implement it I will learn it for life.

Doing = Learning

So my friends before reading books check the WIIFM

And after Learning starting Doing.

You are welcome to my Whatsapp group for updates on my blogs!!
