Legality or Ethics

    Hello friends, so today I want to discuss something important before starting a business.

As I keep discussing the experiences that I got through my entrepreneur journey.

Before deciding to start any business we all think about legality and ethics too.

And I feel these are the most aspects that are supposed to consider before getting into a business.

    Talking about my experience, I went through this phase too before getting into my business.

Of course, I checked all the legal documents which made me assured about the business.

Moreover, it fits into my ethics too.

    Hence after checking all of it I got into the business.

Later, as you know I had a list of questions which I ask my mentor and he answers it politely.

Hence I had a question about Legality and Ethics.

So my question was: "What is a more important aspect to check before getting into the business, Is it Legality or Ethics?"

My mentor answered in his unique.

He said: “Firstly you cannot compare your hand with your leg, both are different and important at their place. Both serve a different purpose”.

Likewise, Legality and Ethics both are different and equally important aspects that should be considered before getting into any business.

 But one should keep in mind that one of them is a variable term and the other is constant.

The variable term means which changes accordingly.

The constant term means which does not change at any cost.

Now which is a Variable term and which one is a Constant term let me explain to you with the example

Say, for instance, a person drives a car from Maharashtra state which has a liquor box in it.

This can be considered quite normal as carrying liquor in your vehicle in this particular state is legal.

However, if the person crosses the border of Maharashtra and reaches the neighbouring state which is Gujarat.

As soon as this person enters the state he is considered to be doing an illegal activity of carrying liquor, as Gujarat is a dry state.

And if the person moves ahead in yet another adjoining state of Gujarat which is Rajasthan, where carrying liquor is not considered to be illegal. He is treated normally.

The point that I am trying to explain is: “Legality changes geographically”. Every state, every country has its legal values or terms.

Hence Legality is a Variable term.

    Now talking about Ethics.

Every person has his own ethics in life.

We all live our lives with those ethics and we would never amend them at any cost.

 

    So if a person considers liquor as an unethical thing. It will remain unethical even if he goes to any part of the world.

For him, it will be wrong no matter if it is legal or not in that particular place.

Hence Ethics is a constant term.

Since then I have first considered my ethics before getting into anything new. If it fits into my ethics then comes the legality part.

So my dear friends, choose things ethically first then check the legality part.
